Pakkasin perjantaina 6 pentua autoon, Tamin ja Vessen kärryyn ja suuntasin auton nokan kohti Vironharjua. Olin lupautunut vuosi sitten sinne kuuluttajaksi näyttelyyn enkä silloin tietenkään voinut aavistaa minulla olevan näin monta pentua kotona. Mietin viikolla erilaisia vaihtoehtoja mutta mikään niistä ei tuntunut kuitenkaan kovin hyvältä joten päädyin sitten ottamaan kaikki mukaan. Onneksi Hanna oli lapautunut ottamaan osan pennuista luokseen ja sovimme, että kaksi pentua menee hänelle ja loput neljä minun mukaani hotelliin.
Automatka oli kaikille muille pennuille, paitsi yhdelle, ensimmäinen ja jo se tulisi tekemään matkasta vähintäänkin jännittävän. Petasin farmari mallisen auton takaosaan pennuille mukavat oltavat ja pienellä ponnistelulla sain kaikki sinne jättämättä yhtään tassua tai häntää oven väliin.
En päässyt edes ensimmäiselle kunnon ajotielle (matkaa n. 50 metriä) kun jo ensimmäinen pentu päätti ettei halua matkustaa takana. Sitkeällä toiminnalla se pääsikin pois sieltä ja asettui takapenkille. Matkan edetessä muutkin pennut päättivät tehdä saman ja loppujen lopuksi vain kaksi pentua matkusti siellä missä kaikkien olisi pitänyt matkustaa. Toisille ei riittänyt edes takapenkki vaan tunkivat itsensä apukuskin paikalle ja siten pääsivät seuraamaan liikennettä ja tummuvaa maisemaa. Yksikään pentu ei osoittanut minkäänlaista pelkoa edes automatkan alussa. Pari pientä oksennusta tuli mutta nekin varmaan sen takia kun keikkuivat välillä mahansa varassa milloin minkäkin nojan päällä.
Hanna olikin meitä vastassa Kotkassa ja kävimme hotellin lähistöllä sijaitsevalla kentällä juoksuttamassa pennut ja aikuiset. Kosto oli tietysti myös mukana ja oli kiva nähdä miten pentu oli kasvanut ja kehittynyt parissa viikossa. Tami huomasi myös, että joukkio oli lisääntynyt yhdellä mutta ei osoittanut millään muotoa ettei se sitä hyväksyisi ja Kostokin näytti siltä, että vielä muistaisi äitinsä.
Yö sujui erittäin rauhallisesti ja aamulla jätin pennut hotellihuoneeseen suunnatessani kohti Harjun näyttelyä kahden vanhemman koiran matkustaessa mukanani. Päivä venyi näyttelyssä aivan kauhean pitkäksi mutta onneksi Hanna pystyi auttamaan ja kävi ruokimmassa pennut ja samalla seurusteli niiden kanssa hetken. Illalla käytiin jälleen kaikkien 7 pennun kanssa lenkillä lähistöllä sijaitsevien kasvihuoneiden luona. Onneksi sekä Laura että Hanna olivat mukana. Yksin ei tuollaisen arvaamattomasti käyttäytyvän lauman kanssa uskaltaisi. Pennut saivat purkaa kaiken patoutuneen energiansa ja illalla oli huoneessa jälleen rauhallista.
Sunnuntaina pakattiin pennut Lauran pakettiautoon ja otettiin mukaan näyttelyyn. Autoon saatiin lainaksi Hannalta patteri ja kiitos sen, eristävien alustojen sekä fleece peittojen oli pennuilla mukavan lämpimät oltavat. Pari kertaa ajettiin auto hieman kauemmaksi näyttelyalueelta ja pennut pääsivät juoksemaan sekä tarpeilleen. Välillä oli kyllä hiukan huolestuttavaa katsoa kun pennut painelivat menemään pitkälti edessä ja päättivät suunnata kohti ajotietä. Onneksi niillä on kaikilla hyvä saalisvietti, joten risuja katkomaan puista ja houkuttelemaan niillä ne takaisin. Näyttelyn jälkeen hain puuttuvat kaksi pentua Hannalta ja sitten kiireen vilkkaa kohti kotia. Tällä kertaa olin pedannut koko auton takaosan takapenkkiä myöden pennuille mutta siltä kaksi pentua päätti nukkua etupenkillä koko kotimatkan.
Viikonloppu sujui odotettua paremmin ja ilokseni voin todeta, että hyviltä reissaajilta nämä pennut tuntuvat. Myöhään sunnuntaina tulivat vielä Ulla ja Janne poikansa ja miniänsä kanssa hakemaan oman tyttönsä kotiin. Jälleen oli haikeata sanoa heipat yhdelle pennulle mutta toisaalta olen iloinen, että pennut saavat enemmän yksilöllistä aikaa uusissa perheissään.
Tami and Vesse in the trailer and I headed for Vironharju dog show. A year ago I promised to work there as a speaker. Little did I know that I would have this many puppies at home. During the week I have thought of different possibilities but none of them seemed that good so I decided to take all the dogs with me. Fortunately Hanna promised to take couple of puppies for the weekend and the rest of them came with me to the hotel.
Only one puppy had been travelling in the car before, for the rest of them this was the first time and that itself would make this trip at least exciting. I had made it comfortable for the puppies in the back of my station wagon and with small effort I managed to get them in the car without leaving any paw or tail between doors. I didn’t even get to the first road (approx. 50 meters) when the first puppy decided that she doesn’t want to travel in the back of the car. With persistency she got away from there and settled in the backseat. During our journey other puppies decided to take after her and finally only two puppies travelled there where they all should have. Some of the puppies didn’t think that the backseat was enough so they squeezed themselves in the front seat where they could follow the traffic and darkening landscape. None of the puppies showed any kind of fear even at the beginning of our trip. Few small vomits but I think that was because they were hanging from their stomachs from time to time.
Hanna met us in Kotka and we went to field nearby the hotel where the puppies and adults could run. Kosto was of course with us and it was great to see how she has grown and developed in couple of weeks. Tami realized also that the gang had grown with one but she didn’t show any sign that she wouldn’t accept the puppy. Also Kosto seemed still to remember her mother.
The night was calm and in the morning I left the puppies at the hotel while I, Tammy and Vesse headed for the show in Harju. The day was very long but fortunately Hanna was able to help and she could feed and play with the puppies in the afternoon. In the evening we took all 7 puppies with us to a greenhouse nearby where they could run and play. It was really great that Hanna and Laura could be there also. Alone with a gang who moves unpredictably I wouldn’t dare. The puppies could work off their bottled-up energy and later in the evening in the hotel room it was calm again.
On Sunday we took the puppies in Laura’s van and with us to the show. Hanna gave us a radiator and thanks to that and isolating beds and warm fleece blankets the puppies had nice and warm in the van. Few times during the day we drove the car a bit further away to take the puppies out to run and to pee and poo. Once in a while it was a little bit worrying to watch them running far ahead and heading for the drive way. Thank God they all have good prey drive so I got some sticks from the trees and lured them back to us with the help of them.
After the show I picked up those two puppies from Hanna and the quickly started to drive back home. This time I had made also the backseat for the puppies but still two of them decided to sleep in the front seat the whole journey.
The weekend went better as expected and gladly I can say that these puppies seem to be good companions on trips. Late on Sunday evening Ulla and Janne with their son and daughter in law came to pick up their girl. It was sad to say Goodbye to one of the pups but at the same time I’m glad that the pups get more of individual time in their new families.
