Crazy a.k.a Kreisi

Ja jälleen on kulunut aivan tuhottomasti aikaa sitten viime kirjoituksen. Ei sillä etteikö olisi ollut tapahtumia tai tekemistä. Ehkä jopa välillä liikaakin kun ei tunnu olevan aikaa kirjoitella mitään.

Haimme siis pienen Kreisin Stefan Juntken luota. Hän ei ole koiran kasvattaja mutta aikataulumme eivät sopineet kasvattajan kanssa yhteen, joten siksi Kreisi vietti muutaman päivän Stefanin luona. Keskustelimme ajaessamme Zeitziin tulevasta matkastamme Travemündeen oksentavan ja ehkä jopa hieman pelokkaan pennun kanssa. Samoin mietin miten voin ulkoiluttaa pentua. Olin varannut mukaani pannan ja flexin mutta jos pennulla ei aikaisemmin ole ollut moisia liikkeen estäjiä, saattaisi olla hankalaa saada sitä keskittymään tarpeiden tekemiseen kun kaikki aika kuluisi pannan aiheuttaman kutinan rapsutteluun.

Pihalla meitä vastassa oli Stefan hyvin pieni mustaruskea pentu sylissään. Ei ollut vaikea arvata, että kyseessä oli Kreisi J Heti maahan laskettuaan sen, se tuli iloisesti tervehtimään vieraita ja sen jälkeen totesi vapauden koittaneen joten tutustumaan tarhoissa oleviin koiriin. Tässä vaiheessa en voinut ainakaan sanoa, että pentu olisi millään muotoa vaikuttanut vetäytyvältä mutta olimmehan myös sille tutussa paikassa. Sisällä talossa Kreisi söi ensitöikseen kissojen ruoat ja sen jälkeen leikki kaikilla mahdollisilla tavaroilla. Vaikutelmani pennusta oli energinen ja kuultuani, että pentu oli ensimmäistä kertaa sisätiloissa Stefanilla pidin sitä myös erittäin toimintakykyisenä ja uteliaana.

Again a lot of time has passed since the last post. Not that there hasn’t been happenings or doings. Sometimes even too much because I just can’t find the time to write anything.

So we picked up little Kreisi from Stefan Juntke. He’s not the breeder, but because we couldn’t fix our schedules with the breeder spent Kreisi spent few days at Stefan’s. When we drove to Zeitz we discussed about our incoming trip to Travemünde with a vomiting and maybe even a little bit scared puppy. I also wondered how to take the pup out. I had a collar and a flex with me but if a pup hasn’t wore before such movement stoppers it could be hard to get it to concentrate on doing the needs when the whole time would be used to scratch the itching caused by the collar.

 

Stefan met us in the garden with a very small black and tan puppy in his arms. It wasn’t hard to guess that the puppy was Kreisi J Immediately after putting her down on the ground she came happily to meet us and after that she considered that the freedom had come and so she went to greet the dogs in the kennel quarters. At this point I couldn’t that the puppy was in any way withdrawing but then again we were in a place she knew. Inside the house Kreisi ate first the cat food and afterwards she played with all different things. My first impression of her was energetic and after hearing that she was for the first time inside at Stefan’s I thought she was also very operational and curious.

Emme ehtineet kauaa istua Stefanin luona sillä meillä oli pitkä ajomatka edessä. Pentu auton takapenkillä olevaan boksiin ja tien päälle. Koko matkan aikana Travemündeen Kreisi ei kertaakaan voinut huonosti eikä muutenkaan valittanut. Ainoat kerrat kun se jotain sanoi oli silloin kun sillä oli tarve päästä ulos. Kaikki maalaamamme kauhukuvat jäivät onneksi toteutumatta. Taukopaikoilla oli helppo ottaa pentu hieman sivuun ja ulkoiluttaa sitä. Perillä Travemündessa olikin tilanne toinen. Satama-alueella on melkoinen rekka- yms. liikenne. Oli siis pakko laittaa pentu hihnaan ja toivoa ettei se ihmettelisi kun sille ei löytynytkään nurmikkoa mille tehdä tarpeensa. Jälleen kerran ilahduin sillä Kreisiä ei haitannut panta, hihna taikka asfaltti. Rekkojakin se katseli vain uteliaana.

We didn’t have much time to spend at Stefan’s because we had a long way to drive. We put the puppy into the box on the back seat of the car and then on the road again. Kreisi wasn’t sick on the whole trip to Travemünde nor did she moan. The only time she said something was when she needed to get out. All the horror pictures we had painted fortunately didn’t come true. On the rest places it was easy to take the puppy a bit aside and walk her. When we got to Travemünde it was another story. There were a quite heavy truck and other traffic. I had to put the pup on the leach and hope that she wouldn’t wonder that there isn’t any grass to make her needs. Once again I was glad because she didn’t mind the collar, leach or the asphalt. She was even only curious about the trucks.

Jouduimme jälleen odottamaan monta tuntia satamassa ennen kuin pääsimme laivaan. Tässä kohtaa Kreisi alkoi jo hieman kyllästymään toimettomuuteen. Avasin boxin oven jotta pentu pääsisi hieman liikkumaan. Tästä alkoikin hauska leikki, joka alkoi lelusta jonka sille annoin. Se vei sen välittömästi boxiinsa ja hetken temuttuaan siellä se tuli uudestaan ulos hakemaan seuraavan tavaran. Me tietysti annoimme sille taas jonkun ”lelun” jonka se vei boxiin. Tämä sama kuvio toistui uudestaan ja uudestaan. Lopulta olin varma ettei pentu enää mahdu boxiin kaikkien tavaroiden kanssa mutta sepä olikin piilottanut kaikki siististi alustansa alle. Vihdoin pääsimme laivaan ja hyttiin. Jätimme isot koirat kärryyn matkan ajaksi, vain Kreisi pääsi mukaan hyttiin. Siellä sillä riittikin riemua ja vauhtia. Vessan ovikin oli paras jättää auki jotta Kreisillä olisi edes hieman enemmän tilaa juosta. Pentu myös keksi miten päästä sohvalta sängylle pöydän kautta ja jopa yritti hypätä sylistä syliin käytävän yli. Onneksi väsymys kuitenkin voitti jossain vaiheessa ja pääsimme kaikki nukkumaan.

We had to wait several hours in the harbor before we got into the ship. At this point Kreisi got bored when she had nothing to do. I opened the box door so the puppy could move a bit. A funny game started from a toy I gave her. She took it immediately to the box and after a while work she came outside to pick up the next thing. We of course gave her some “toy” again which she took in the box. The same pattern occurred again and again. Finally I was sure that she couldn’t fit into the box with all those things but I was wrong ‘cause she had hidden all that stuff neatly under her bed. Finally we got into the ship and our cabin. We left the big dogs in the trailer for the journey; we only took Kreisi with us into the cabin. Inside she had a lot of fun and speed. We even left the bathroom door open so Kreisi would have more space to run. The puppy figured also out how to get from the sofa to the bed thru the table and even tried to jump from lap to lap over the aisle. Luckily the tiredness won at some point and we all got to sleep.

Laivamatka sujui hyvin vaikka Kreisi joutuikin matkustaaan sen hytissä. En uskaltanut ulkoiluttaa sitä kannella laisinkaan ettei vain sattuisi mitään odottamatonta. Kotiin päästyämme saivat Vesse ja Kreisi tutustua toisiinsa ensimmäisen kerran. Vesse oli aluksi varautunut mutta ei varmaan kulunut kuin 15 minuuttia kun nuo kaksi jo painelivat menemään pihalla kuin parhaimmat kaverit.

The boat trip went well although Kreisi had to spend it in the cabin. I didn’t dare to take her on the deck afraid that some unexpected would happen.  When we got home Vesse and Kreisi got together for the first time. Vesse was suspicious at the beginning but it took only some 15 minutes when those two already run in the garden like the best friends.

Kesän kuulumisia / Summer news

Hupsista miten  paljon on kulunut aikaa siitä kun viimeksi tuli kirjoitettua tänne. Kesäkuussa sain tietää Tamin kuolinsyyn. Ohutsuolesta löytyi lelunpalanen, joka aiheutti kaiken kauheuden. Hyvä asia tietysti ettei ollut mitään perinnöllistä mutta huonoa se, että kuolema oli niin turha ja vältettävissä. Elämä onneksi jatkuu Tamin jälkikasvussa ja minulle jäi lukuisat ihanat muistot.

Heinäkuun alussa olimme Vessen kanssa jälleen SPL:n koulutusleirillä. Kivaa oli, paljon tuttuja ja uusia tuttavuuksiä, hyviä treenejä ja kiva ilmapiiri.

Heinäkuun puolessa välissä lähdimme Härden kanssa reissuun. Mukaan lähtivät velipojat Jere ja Vesse. Suuntasimme ensin Eestiin ystäviemme Piretin ja Meeliksen luo. Siellä ajoimme jälkiä ja teimme tottelevaisuutta neljän päivän ajan Piretin, Töniksen, Erikan ja Kristin kanssa. Tönis teki myös suojelutreenejä halukkaille. Yhtenä päivänä Piret seisotti meidän koirat ja täytyy myöntää, että Vesse siirtyi laihdutuskuurille nähtyäni kuvat. Oli jälleen mahtavaa olla Eestissä. Sielu ja mieli lepää. Ainoa haitta oli miljoonat kärpäset. Jos olisin tiennyt niitä olevan siellä normaalisti enemmän olisin varustautunut lavallisella Raid-pulloja!

Oops how much time have past by since I last wrote something here. In July I got Tammy's autopsy. A piece of toy was stuck in her small intestine which caused this horrible thing. Good news of course that it wasn't anything inheritable but bad that the death was totally in vain and avoidable. Luckily life continues in Tammy's offspring and I was left with numerous lovely memories.

In the beginning of July I was with Vesse at the SPL training camp. Great time, a lot of friends and new acquaintances, good training and nice atmosphere.

In the mid of July we headed for Estonia with Härde. Along came brothers Jere and Vesse. We went to our friends Piret and Meelis. There we did some tracking and obedience for four days along with Piret, Tönis. Erika and Kristi. Tönis did also protection training for those who wanted. One day Piret made our dogs stand and I have to admit that after I saw the pics Vesse was put on a diet. It was again great to be in Estonia. Mind and soul rests. The only disadvantage was miljons of flys. If I had known that there were more of them than usual, I would have equiped myself with a platform of Raid bottles!

Eestistä lähdimme Saksaan via Baltian kautta. Lämmintä sinä päivänä oli 37 astetta. Silloin oli koirien kärryssäkin kuuma ja kyllä ne joivatkin vettä. Eestin tiet olivat erinomaisessa kunnossa, Latvian tiet osittain mutta Liettuan ja Puolan tiet eivät niinkään tai sitten navimme ajatti meitä jollain kyläteillä. Varsovasta eteenpäin oli moottoritietä melkein Saksan rajalle asti ja useiden tietullien jälkeen saavuimme vihdoin Saksaan. Ajoimme nonstop Eestistä Saksaan ja aikaa kului n. 24 tuntia.

Löysimme läheltä Neunhagenia aivan ihastuttavan pienen hotellin aivan hevostallin vieressä, joten maastoa koirien ulkoilutukselle oli riittämiin. Tulopäivän vietimme koiria ulkoiluttamalla ja lepäämällä. Seuraavana päivänä lähdimme tutustumaan B5-nimiseen designer outletiin ja iltapäivällä lähdimme OG Neuenhageniin. Paikalla oli lukuisia tuttuja ja meidät otettiin jälleen kerran lämpimästi vastaan.
Pääsimme katsomaan treenejä mutta myös treenaamaan omat koiramme. Kiitos Nico ja Frank avustanne!

Sunnuntaina lähdimme tervehtimään Jeren kasvattajaa Michael ja Manuela Schubertia. Kotona oli myös tytär Julia, joka oli kovasti kasvanut sitten viimeksi kun hänet tapasin 3,5 vuotta sitten. Manuela toivotti meidät sydämellisesti tervetulleiksi Micha tultua hiukan myöhemmin kotiin ja juotuamme kahvit heidän luonaan lähdimme koirien koulutuskentälle OG Britziin. Paikalla oli muutama jäsen treenaamassa ja näimme joitain Jeren sisaruksia myös. Täälläkin meille tarjoutui mahdollisuus treenata omia koiriamme. Päivän päätteeksi tarjosivat Micha ja Manuela herkullisen grilliaterian, jonka nautimme heidän puutarhassa lämpimässä auringonpaisteessa. Kiitos kivasta päivästä ja vieraanvaraisuudestanne! Alkuillasta suuntasimme jälleen majapaikkaamme valmistautumaan seuraavaan päivään.

Aamupäivällä lähdimme tutustumaan A10-nimiseen ostospaikkaan (suosittelen!!!!) ja iltapäivällä meillä oli treffit Vessen kasvattajan kanssa. Oli todella kiva nähdä Anne pitkästä aikaa, sillä viimeksi tapasimme Baunatalissa 2009. Lähdimme jälleen "neuenhagenilaisten" kanssa treenaamaan mutta tällä kertaa urheilukentälle. Jälleen saimme hyvät treenit omille koirille ja lopuksi vielä ryhmäkuvan Hardes vom Aesculapin kolmesta jälkeläisestä: Rasko vom Annenhof, Vranjo vom Annenhof ja Ajere vom Buntzelberg - kaikki eri yhdistelmästä. Kiitos vielä kerran kaikille ystäville mahtavasta viikonlopusta ja kivasta seurasta. Tästä matkamme jatkui seuraavana päivänä Zeitziin Stefania ja pientä Kreisiä tapaamaan mutta siitä seuraa oma tarina.

We drove from Estomia to Germany thru via Baltica. It was 37 celsius warm that day. Even the dogs had warm in the dogtrailer and they certainly drank a lot of water. The roads in Estonia were in excellent condition, roads in Latvia partly but roads in Lithuania and Poland not or then our navi guided us thru some village roads. From Warsow almost to the German border there were a highway and after numerous road customs we finally came to Germany. We drove nonstop from Estonia to Germany in about 24 hours.

We found near Neunhagen one adorable little hotel close to a horse stable, so we had plenty of terrain to walk our dogs. On the day we arrived we just rested by walking our dogs. The next day we went to B5 a designer outlet and in the afternoon to OG Neunhagen. Numerous friends met us there and they welcomed us warmly. We had the opportunity to see friends training but also to train our own dogs. Thank you Nico and Frank for your help!

On Sunday we went to meet the breeders of Jere Michael and Manuela Schubert. At home was also their daughter Julia who had grown very much since I last saw her 3,5 years ago. Manuela welcomed us warmly while Micha was away and came a bit later and after a cup of coffee we headed for the dog training field OG Britz. There were some members training and we also saw some siblings of Jere. Also here we had the opportunity to train of own dogs. At the end of the day Micha and Manuela served us a delicious barbeque which we enjoyed in their garden in a warm sunshine. Thank you for a great day and your hospitality! In the beginning of the evening we headed again to our quarters to get ready for the next day.

  

In the morning we drove to a shopping center called A10 ( I recommend!!!) and in the afternoon we had a date with the breeder of Vesse. It was really great to meet Anne for a long time, because I met her last in Baunatal in 2009. We went again to train with "neuenhageners" but this time to a sportfied. Again we got a great training for own dogs and finally took a group picture of Hardes vom Aesculap's three offsprings: Rasko vom Annenhof, Vranjo vom Annenhof and Ajere vom Buntzelberg - all from different combinations. Thank you once again to all our friends for a great weekend and company. Our journey continued the next day to Zeitz to meet Stefan and little Kreisi but a story of its own continues.

Eesti FH mestaruus / Estonia FH championship

Aikaisemmin keväällä sain pyynnön saapua Eestiin kokeenjohtajaksi Eesti Koeraspordiliit’in järjestämään FH mestaruuskisaan. Otin mielelläni tehtävän vastaan sillä pääsisinhän samalla käymään Piretin ja Meeliksen luona. Viime viikon torstaina suuntasin Vessen kanssa matkaan. Kisa piti alun perin käydä kaksipäiväisenä mutta osallistujia oli sen verran vähän, että ne pidettiin yhtenä päivänä. Juha Puurunen Suomesta saapui arvostelemaan kisan ja piti vielä perjantaina jälkiseminaarin.

Itselläni oli hyvää aikaa perjantaina suunnitella jäljet. Siellä tehtävä on helppo, sillä peltoa on silmän kantamattomiin. Esimerkkinä kuva Vessestä jonka takana siintää peltoa. Osallistuvia koiria tulisi olemaan yhteensä kahdeksan. Neljä FH1:ssä ja neljä FH2:ssa. Jäljentekijöitä meitä oli kolme, joten hommia kyllä riitti jokaiselle kun ensin tehtiin jäljet ja sitten käveltiin ne vielä perässä. Lisäksi olivat keskenään sopineet, että yksi jäljentekijä tekee kaksi ykkösen jälkeä ja yhden kakkosen jäljen, yksi tekee yhden ykkösen ja kaksi kakkosta ja minä tein yhden kumpaakin.

Earlier this spring I got a phone call from Estonia and was asked to be a trial leader to FH championships of Eesti Koeraspordiliit. I gladly accepted because I was able at the same time visit Piret and Meelis. On Thursday last week I headed with Vesse to Estonia. In the beginning it was meant to be a two day competition but there were so few participants, so it was to be held as one day competition. Juha Puurunen from Finland came over to judge and he held also a tracking seminar on Friday.

I had enough of time to plan tracks on Friday. It’s an easy task over there, because of the amount of fields. As an example a picture of Vesse and in the background field. Participating dogs were to be eight. Four in FH1 and four in FH2. There were three track layers, so everyone had enough to do when we first made tracks and then walked after handlers. Accordingly they had decided earlier that on would make two FH1 track and one FH2, one would make one FH1 and two FH2 tracks and I would make one each.

Näillä eväillä lähdimme varhain lauantaiaamuna jälkiä tarpomaan tyynessä ja yökasteen jälkeisessä kelissä. Onneksi kaikki jäljet olivat Piretin ja Meeliksen talon ympäristössä, joten siirtymisiin ei kulunut juurikaan aikaa. Kello 10 starttasi ensimmäinen koira mutta valitettavasti se ei päässyt kuin pari metriä aloituksesta ja lopetti siihen työskentelyn. Tuuli oli näiden kolmen tunnin aikana yltynyt melkoiseksi puhuriksi, joten olosuhteet olivat vaativat. Seuraava koira pääsi hiukan pidemmälle kunnes ajoi kulmasta yli. Kolmas koira pääsi viimeiselle suoralle ja siihen loppui sen suoritus ja viimeinen ykkösen koira pääsi melkein ensimmäisen suoran loppuun. Kyllä oli harmillista ettei tullut yhtään tulosta tästä luokasta!

Äärettömän herkullisen lounaan (grillivartaita)  jälkeen oli vuorossa kakkosen jäljet. Ensimmäinen koira epäonnistui L Toisen koiran kohdalla omakin jännitys alkoi nousta. Kyseessä oli minun tekemän jälki ja koira, johon olin päässyt tutustumaan edellisellä käynnilläni. Koira itsessään ajoi jo silloin hyvin jälkeä mutta ehkä minun makuuni hieman liian vauhdikkaasti ja esineistä sillä ei ollut hajuakaan. Keskityimme esineilmaisuuun silloin ja nyt olisi jännittävää nähdä onko töitä tehty ja miltä tulos näyttäisi. Ja olihan sitä työtä tehty! Seitsemästä esineestä kuusi nousi ja tuomari palkitsi suorituksen 95 pisteellä. Koiralla oli suhteellisen isoja vaikeuksia pitkin jälkeä mutta kertaakaan se ei keskeyttänyt työskentelyään vaan taisteli jäljen läpi. Omistaja riemuitsi, eikä syyttä, ja kiitti minua moneen kertaan neuvoista esineilmaisussa. Oli kyllä sellainen olo kuin olisi itse saanut tuon tuloksen J Loput kilpailijoista olivat yhtä epäonnisia kuin suurin osa muutkin, eikä muita tuloksia tullut.

Palkintojen jaon jälkeen lähdimme katsomaan nautoja ja lähinnä sonnipoikia Rossia ja Keitoa, jotka olivat samana päivänä päässeet tyttöjen kanssa laitumella. Ovat ne kyllä komeita ja kunnioitusta herättävän kokoisia. Meelis ajoi auton laitumelle, joten olimme karjan keskellä ainoana suojana niiden hoitaja  Rene, joka Piretin mukaan on varsinainen nautakuiskaaja.

Seuraavana päivänä oli taas aika suunnata kotia kohti. Oli jälleen hieno reissu ja opettavainen kokemus suunnitella ja tehdä FH jälkiä.

Early on Saturday morning we started to lay tracks in calm and after night moist weather. Luckily all the tracks were in Piret and Meelis’s house surroundings so we didn’t have to use much time to get there. At 10 o’clock started the first dog in its track but unfortunately went only few meters from the beginning and stopped working. The wind had started blow quite strongly during these three hours, so the circumstances were hard. The next dog got a little bit further until he went out from the corner. The third dog got to the last straight and then it finished for him/her and the last dog in this class got almost to the first corner. So annoying that there were no results from this class!

After the most delicious lunch (barbeque) it was time for FH2 tracks. The first dog was unsuccessful L With the second dog also my excitement started to grow. I had laid the track and I had the opportunity the get acquainted with the dog during my earlier visit. The dog did tracking very good but maybe a little too fast to my opinion and he had no idea what to do with the articles. We concentrated on articles with him at that time and now it would be interesting to see have they done their work and how the result would look like. And they had done their work! Out of seven articles he picked up six and the judge rewarded the job with 95 point. The dog had somewhat big problems during the track but he didn’t quit his job at any time and fought the track thru. The owner was so happy and without a doubt. She also thanked me several times for the help I had given her. It felt like I had got that result for myself J The rest of the competitors were as unlucky as the most of the competitors and there were no other results.

After the ceremony we went to see the cows and merely bull boys Rossi and Keito who had gone out to the pastures with the girls on the same day. The boys are so handsome and their size is respectful. Meelis drove the car in the pasture, so we were among the herd with only shield their caretaker Rene, who is according to Piret, a real cow whisperer.

The next day it was again time for me to head home. Once again a great journey and educational experience to plan and lay FH1 tracks.

R.I.P. Tammy vom Annenhof

Kaksi viikkoa on kulunut siitä kun Tami yllättäen kuoli. Vielä en tiedä kuolinsyytä. Vein koirani patologille mutta siellä sanottiin, että tuloksien saanti kestää 4-5 viikkoa. Tami alkoi oksentamaan 6-7.5. välisenä yönä ja oksentaminen ei lakannut vaikka yritin lääkitä sen kaikin mahdollisin konstein. Keskiviikkona 11.5. vein sen eläinlääkäriin ja se sai 24 tunnin oksennusestolääkityksen. Lääkitys toimi ja ehdin jo iloita, että koira kuntoutuu kunnes 13-14.5 välisenä yönä oksentaminen alkoi jälleen ja todella rajuna. Aamulla kuuntelin, että se oli alkanut hengittää raskaasti ja vaikeasti. Soitin heti päivystykseen ja sain sille ajan. Lähdin viemään sitä oitis mutta nyt Tami ei jaksanut enää kunnolla kävellä. Meillä on ulko-ovelta autotallille n. 50 metrin matka. Jo heti ensi askeleesta oli Tamilla vaikea kävellä ja se laahasi ensin jalkojaan, alkoi sen jälkeen horjahdella ja lopuksi lyyhistyi  maahan autotallin eteen johon se menehtyi. Koko viikon ajan Tami oli muuten täysin normaali itsensä. Se kuka ei tiennyt sen oksentavan ei olisi edes pystynyt arvaamaan, että Tamia vaivasi jokin. Ei kuumeilua, ei velttoutta, ei väsymystä, ei yhtään mitään muuta oiretta kuin oksentaminen. Eläinlääkärikin sanoi silloin keskiviikkona, että  ei se onneksi kovin kipeältä vaikuta. Kaksi päivää myöhemmin koirani kuoli vain 5 vuotiaana olematta päivääkään kipeä ennen tätä. Ikävä on tietysti kova ja päivittäin mietin miksi ja mihin Tami menehtyi. Toivottavasti saan siihen vastauksen.

Two weeks have passed since Tami unexpectedly died. I still don’t know what caused it. I took her to the pathologist but they said that it will take 4-5 weeks until I get the results. Tami started to throw up in the night between 6^th and 7^th of May and it didn’t stop even though I tried to medicate her in every possible way. On Wednesday 11^th of May I took her to the vet and she got a 24 hour medicine that should prevent her to vomit. The medicine worked and I was already happy that the dog would get better until in the night between 13^th and 14^th of May she started to throw up again and this time really violently. In the morning I listened that she had started to breathe heavily and difficultly. I immediately called the emergency duty and got her an appointment. I left right away with her but now she barely could walk. From my front door the garage is about 50 meters. Already from the first step Tami had hard time to walk and first she dragged her feet, then started to stagger and finally collapsed in front of the garage where she passed away. The whole week Tami had otherwise been her normal self. Who didn’t know that she was vomiting could never guess that there is something wrong with her. No fever, no laziness, no tiredness, no nothing except vomiting. Even the vet said on Wednesday, that luckily she doesn’t seem to be very sick. Two days later my dog died only at the age of 5 without ever been sick before this. I miss her a lot of course and daily I’m thinking why and what caused Tami’s death. I hope I’ll get an answer to this.

Matkalla tähteyteen :D / On a way to stardom :D

Käytiin Tamin ja Vessen kanssa Maunulassa jossa oli tarkoitus kuvata koiraa kun se haukkuu teatterinäytelmään ”Rautavaara – Oulunkylän tähti”. Otin molemmat varmuuden vuoksi mukaan, jotta kuvaaja sai päättää kumpaa käytetään. Nähtyään ne hän sanoi, että kuvataan molemmat.

Harjoituksissa kumpikin oli haukkunut tosi hienosti käskystä, joten ajattelin ettei meillä ole mitään hätää senkun käskytän ja molemmat paukuttavat menemään. Ramppikuume vai  mikä  mutta kun kamera laitettiin käymään ja mikrofoni päälle ei kumpikaan inahtanut. Tami suoritti super luoksetulon ja tiiviisti edessä istumisen, Vesse taas teki kaikki muut temput mitä se osasi paitsi pyörimistä tällä kertaa. Ei siis muuta kuin uusi otos ja onnistuihan se mutta ei ehkä niin hyvin mitä itse toivoin. Ehdotin, että laitetaan koirat kiinni ja haukutan niitä siinä. Tulee vähän enemmän viettiä ja tavaraa kavereihin.  Kuvaaja hyväksyi ehdotuksen ja laitoin koirat puuhun kiinni. Nämä otokset onnistuivatkin hyvin ja niitä otettiin peräti pari kappaletta. Kuvaaja vain totesi, että kylläpä ne jaksavat haukkua. Kai ne jaksaa kun kerrankin luvalla saavat ja frisbeen toivossa. Taas ollaan yhtä kokemusta rikkaampia ja matka kohti Oscareita on alkanut J

Today I went with Tami and Vesse to Maunula outdoor resort where a guy wanted to film a barking dog for a play called”Rautavaara – Oulunkylän tähti” (a famous Finnish sports legend and a singer). I took both dogs with just in case so the cameraman could decide which one to use. When he saw them he said that lets shoot them both.

In rehearsals they both had been barking really well on command, so I thought we are in no trouble I just tell them to bark and they go for it. Stage fever or what but when the camera and the microphone were turned on neither one made a sound. Tami made a super income and tight sitting in front, Vesse made all his tricks except roll over this time.  Well, a new clip and we succeeded this time but not as good as I have hoped for. So I suggested that we should tie both dogs and then I would make them bark. This way I will get more drive and stuff in them. The cameraman said okay and I tied the dogs on a tree. These clips were successful and few were taken. The cameraman said that boy do they bark continuously. But of course, when once and for all they are allowed to do it and in hope of the Frisbee.  We are once again one experience richer and they way to the Oscars have begun J

Koulutuspäivä / Training day

Suojelutuomareiden, tuomarioppilaiden ja -oppilaskokeilaitten koulutuspäivä Forssassa. Tarkoituksena on siis yhtenäistää arvosteluita. Tässä vaiheessa on todettava, että 11 tuomarioppilaskokelaasta on enää 5  kuvioissa mukana. Näistä 5:stä on yksi jo valmistunut SPL tuomariksi, 2 on tuomarioppilaita ja 2 tuomarioppilaskokelasta.

Aamusta siirryimme heti Mustialaan, jossa Timo Helysen johdolla harjoittelivat tulevat koemaalimiehet. Kavereita on tänä vuonna koulutuksessa kiitettävät 6 kappaletta. Valitettavasti treenattavia koiria heillä ei tainnut olla kuin 11. Seurasin hiukan jo eilen tämän porukan harjoittelua ja voin vakuuttaa ettei Timo  päästänyt ohjaajia saati maalimiehiä helpolla. Me arvostelimme useamman koiran suorituksia ja mukavasti syntyi keskustelua siitä miten kukin näki ja tulkitsi eri tilanteet. Ilma oli auringon paistaessa lämmin, joten mikä meidän oli nauttia kauniista kevätpäivästä koirien suorituksia katsellen ja arvioiden. Itse totesin ilokseni, että uuden koeohjesäännön kääntäminen / oikolukeminen talvella on tuottanut tulosta. En ollut läheskään yhtä pihalla kuin edellisinä vuosina tähän aikaan J

A training day for judges in protection, judge students and judge student candidates in Forssa. The aim is to unify the judgment. At this point I have to say that from 11 judge student candidates only 5 is left. From these 5 1 has become a judge in protection, 2 are judge students and 2 judge student candidates.

In the morning we went to Mustiala where the new competition helpers were training with Timo Helynen as their leader. There are excellently 6 guys in the training. Unfortunately they only had some 11 dogs to work with. I followed this group already on Saturday and I can assure you that Timo didn’t go easy on handlers or helpers. We judged several dogs’ performance and it was nice to see and hear how differently we saw different situations. The air was nice warm during the sunshine, so we had a great time enjoying the beautiful spring day watching and judging performances. I gladly noticed that the translation / proofreading of the new rules that I did in the winter paid off. I wasn’t nearly as out of it as the years before during this time of the year J

Puolelta päivin siirryimme koulutusohjaajaoppilaiden luo arvostelemaan tottelevaisuuksia. Monet ohjaajat joutuivat varmasti kuulemaan rankkojakin arvioita suorituksistaan. Pitää kuitenkin muistaa, että niistä kannattaa ottaa oppia ettei turhaan menetä niitä, joskus jopa, arvokkaitakin ½ pisteitä. Omasta, ja varmasti kaikkien muidenkin, mielestä nämä tilaisuudet ovat erittäin arvokkaita niin arvosteleville tuomareille kuin ohjaajille. Myös he pääsevät kerrankin kuulemaan mikä vaikuttaa arvosanaan ja miksi.

Iltapäivällä meidän oman koulutuksen jälkeen ajo Forssan kentälle odottamaan maalimiesoppilaiden treenien loppumista jotta pääsimme treenaamaan omat koiramme. Tami ja Vesse pääsivät molemmat puruihin ensimmäistä kertaa Saksan jälkeen. Kumpikaan ei oikein ollut terässä. En tiedä johtuiko siitä, että olivat vain maanneet lämpimissä kopeissa koko päivän vai aikaerosta J J

 In the noon we moved on to judge the obedience to the students who are in training to become obedience trainers. I believe that several handlers had to listen to even very harsh estimates of their doings. One has to remember though that one should learn from that so one wouldn’t lose, sometimes even, valuable ½ points. On my behalf, as I’m sure on others too, I have to say that these occasions are very valuable for the working judges as for the handlers. Also they get to listen what affect things have to the grades and why.

After our training in the afternoon I drove to our training field to wait for the helper students to get ready so we could start to train our own dogs. Tami and Vesse got to do bite work for the first time after Germany. Neither one was at their sharpest. I don’t know was it due to that they had been laying in the warm boxes for the whole day or the jet lag J J

Paluu arkeen / Back to everyday

Kotona jälleen. Treenimatka tältä osaa ohi ja paluu arkeen edessä. Jätimme, voisi sanoa jo, kesäisen Kölnin alueen taaksemme tiistaina ja suuntasimme kohti Travemündea. Matkalla jouduimme todella isoon ratsiaan. Kaikki alta 7,5 tonnia painavat autot ohjattiin sivuun ja siellä vielä eroteltiin osa autoista. Näytti siltä kuin kaikki ulkomaan rekisterissä olevien autojen annettiin jatkaa matkaa kun taas Saksan rekisterissä olevat ohjattiin sivuun. Varsinaiseen ratsiaan joutuneet purettiin kaikista matkatavaroista. Siinä kohtaa totesimme, että luojan kiitos emme joutuneet siihen, koska meillä oli vain ”hieman” tavaraa = 3 naisen vaatteet ja 5 koiran ruoat ja tarvikkeet. Jotain Saksan poliisi selvästi etsi mutta mitä se oli, ei koskaan meille selvinnyt.

Travemündessa ehdimme käydä syömässä ravintolassa ja ulkoiluttamassa koirat vielä ennen laivan lähtöä. Satama-alueella jouduimme odottamaan taas monta tuntia laivaan pääsyä, mikä tosin oli tuttua jo edellisistä kerroista. Laivan lähtö myöhästyi n. tunnilla ja hytteihin saapuessamme totesimme Finnlinesin korvaneen meidän lähtösiirron A-luokan hyteillä. Ihanan isot ikkunalliset hytit! Laivamatka sujui rauhallisesti syömisen ja olemisen merkeissä ja torstaiaamuna saavuimme aurinkoiseen Helsinkiin. Toisaalta on aina ihana palata kotiin vaikka hieman haikeana jättikin köln-pollilaiset. Treenaaminen siellä on vain niin erilaista vaikka onneksi ainakin meidän omalla kentällä osataan jo viettää myös yhteistä aikaa kahvittelun ja joskus jopa grillaamisen merkeissä treenien jälkeen.

Tulevana viikonloppuna on aika suunnata kohti Forssaa ja liiton kevätleiriä. Lauantaina kiertelen ryhmissä ja treenaan tietysti omat koirani. Sunnuntaina on ohjelmassa tuomarikoulutukseen liittyvää arvostelun yhtenäistämistä.

Home again. The training trip is over for now and return to everyday is ahead. We left, you could already say, summer Köln behind us on Tuesday and headed for Travemünde. On our way we came to a really big bust. Every car under 7,5 ton were took aside and then one more time they were divided. It looked like all the cars in foreign register were able to drive thru and all in German register the police took aside. All the cars they took aside they pulled the entire luggage out. At that point we were happy that we didn’t have to be there because we had just a “little” luggage = clothes for 3 women and food and stuff for 5 dogs. The German police were surely looking for something but what? That we didn’t find out.

In Travemünde we had time for a dinner in a restaurant and took our dogs for a small walk before the ship left the harbor. In the harbor area we had to wait for several hours before boarding but that was familiar to us from the trips before. The takeoff was delayed with one hour and when we arrived our cabins we found out that Finnlines had compensate the change of date with A class cabins. Gorgeous big cabins with windows! The boat trip went calmly eating and hanging out and on Thursday morning we arrived to sunny Helsinki. On the other hand it’s great to be back home even though I left a little wistful the köln-pollers. The training over there is just so different even though I have to say that thankfully at least in my own group we also know how to spend time together drinking coffee and sometimes even having a barbeque after the training.

In the incoming weekend I’m heading for Forssa where the GSD association spring camp is held. On Saturday I’m planning to go round in different groups and train my own dogs of course. On Sunday we judge students and judges try again to unify the judgment.
